In the Works

I'm planning on selling my photographs through Old Ways for a very reasonable price to help cover costs here. Details will be shared through the site and through Magickal Correspondences.

Send a Gift

Old Ways is offered free of charge - and has been offered free of charge since the very first issue back in March 1997. I've never charged for a single student or asked for any sort of compensation for any of the workshops or lessons that I've taught over the years. I feel that it's important for a spiritual teacher to serve those people that the teacher guides, rather than offering those services for a price.

I'm not actually asking for donations, which is why I refer to it as a gift. (In fact I devoted the first part of a Magickal Correspondences column to exactly that topic.) For years, I refused to accept any sort of gift or thank you. Believe it or not, readers insisted that they be allowed to do something to say "thank you" for Old Ways. In June 2007, more than ten years after the first article was sent out, I relented and allowed readers and students to send a financial thank you my way. The basic reason behind this was simply that, by refusing to accept a gift of any sort, I was not allowing people to feel the gratitude they felt for what I gave them. (And I was actually scolded by numerous readers for giving but not allowing them to give in return.) Being big on offering my own thanks, appreciation and gratitude, I realized that if our roles were reversed, I'd also appreciate an avenue to say thank you.

It's important to me that I'm tremendously ethical with the gifts that you send my way. Being a spiritual teacher is not something that I seek to profit from. In that spirit, here's a breakdown of all of the gifts that have been sent my way since October 2007 and what those funds have been used for.

The easiest way to do so is to add a dollar or two to my PayPal account. Just click the button below and it will take you to the appropriate page. If you don't have a PayPal account, the lower left-hand portion of the screen offers you the option of using your credit or debit card.

I chose PayPal because I've used them myself while making online purchases and I trust their service with my own funds. In fact, I won't buy Solstice or birthday gifts off eBay if there's not an option to use PayPal to complete the transaction.

The button above is encrypted using PayPal's standards, rather than just being a link (which is one of the reasons why it can take a moment to appear), so even getting from here to their page is secure.

The only confusing thing about the PayPal screen is that the "Unit Price" field is blank. You can indicate whatever amount you'd like to send. (I typically suggest a dollar or two but it's entirely up to you.) Don't be surprised if some sort of "thank you" ends up in your snail mailbox - a hand-written note... a rock gathered on one of my journeys... a shell from some lonely beach... It's hard to say what form it will take, but I do like to express gratitude myself.
